Fidelity Digital Assets is signalling a shift in the wealth-management industry, stating that digital assets are becoming “central to advisor-client conversations.”
In a post on X, Fidelity announced: “Digital assets are becoming central to advisor-client conversations. Learn which questions advisors are fielding the most when it comes to …”
The move reflects growing acknowledgement within the financial-advisory sector that cryptocurrencies and other digital-asset investments are no longer fringe topics. According to Fidelity’s research piece titled The Maturation of Digital Assets, the firm believes that digital assets, led by Bitcoin and Ethereum, have matured into a distinct, investable asset class.
The article points to expanding institutional interest, increasing liquidity in digital-asset markets, and improved infrastructure and regulatory clarity as drivers. In this context, Fidelity says that advisors are receiving more client inquiries about digital assets exposure, portfolio inclusion, risks, and operational aspects.
The signal comes as many advisory firms grapple with how to integrate crypto-assets into their advice frameworks. While historically many advisors reported low confidence in counseling clients on crypto, Fidelity has previously expanded its educational offerings to support advisor readiness.
According to the 2021 Institutional Investor Digital Assets Study, for example, advisor adoption of digital assets exposure rose from 23 % in 2020 to 43 % in 2021.
With digital assets now positioned as a routine conversation topic, the implication is clear: wealth-management firms may need to develop infrastructure, governance, compliance and client-education strategies around crypto. Fidelity’s statement suggests that leaders in the space are preparing for this trend.
For clients, this could mean more transparent discussions of how digital assets fit their risk profile, diversification strategy, and longer-term portfolio goals. For advisors, it signals the necessity of building expertise, internal controls, and clarity on how to approach digital assets in client portfolios.
