Gemini cleared by CFTC to launch Crypto-Linked predictions

Gemini Space Station, Inc. (NASDAQ: GEMI) announced that its affiliate, Gemini Titan, LLC, has secured a Designated Contract Market (DCM) license from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), paving the way for the company to introduce prediction markets to American users.

The approval concludes a five-year licensing journey that began on March 10, 2020.

Tyler Winklevoss, CEO of Gemini, described the authorization as a major milestone for the company. “Today’s approval marks the culmination of a 5-year licensing process and the beginning of a new chapter for Gemini,” he said. He also credited President Trump and Acting CFTC Chairman Caroline Pham for fostering what he described as a more innovation-friendly regulatory environment.

According to Winklevoss, the decision reflects a renewed commitment to making the United States a global leader in digital asset innovation.

With the new DCM license, Gemini Titan will offer event-based prediction markets built around simple yes-or-no contracts tied to future outcomes. Examples include questions such as whether Bitcoin will end the year above $200,000 or whether X, the platform owned by Elon Musk, will pay a $140 million fine to the European Commission in 2026.

Cameron Winklevoss, Gemini’s President, said prediction markets hold transformative potential. “Prediction markets have the potential to be as big or bigger than traditional capital markets,” he stated, praising Acting Chairman Pham for adopting what he characterized as a pro-innovation regulatory stance.

U.S. customers will soon be able to trade event contracts through Gemini’s web platform using USD balances, with mobile app support expected to follow.

Beyond prediction markets, Gemini Titan is also exploring expanding its U.S. derivatives portfolio to include crypto futures, options, and perpetual contracts, popular products in global crypto markets but historically restricted in the United States.

Gemini says prediction markets tap into the “wisdom of the crowd,” offering a more accurate way of forecasting future events through market incentives. The initiative also aligns with Gemini’s broader ambition of building a comprehensive financial “super app” for digital asset users.
