India’s national Blockchain reaches 34 crore verifications

India’s national Blockchain reaches 34 crore verifications

India’s adoption of blockchain technology for governance has reached a significant milestone, with over 34 crore government documents verified on the National Blockchain Platform as of October 21, 2025, according to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

The initiative is part of the National Blockchain Framework (NBF), a ₹64.76 crore project officially launched in September 2024. Developed by MeitY, the framework provides a unified architecture for deploying blockchain-based systems across government departments, improving transparency, data integrity, and efficiency in public service delivery.

At the heart of the NBF lies the Vishvasya Blockchain Stack, a homegrown, modular blockchain platform deployed across NIC data centers in Bhubaneswar, Pune, and Hyderabad. The stack operates as a Blockchain-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, allowing government bodies to launch blockchain applications without building separate infrastructure.

The National Blockchain Framework has already seen large-scale implementation across multiple governance areas. Among the verified records, over 48,000 documents come from the Document Chain, which securely stores essential citizen certificates like caste, income, and ration cards.

The framework also powers Property Chain, where blockchain-backed property records allow citizens to verify ownership histories and reduce land disputes.

In the justice sector, the Judiciary Chain has registered 665 documents, including court notices and bail orders, while the Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS) has added more than 39,000 case records to the blockchain.

Blockchain integration has also extended to supply-chain management. Karnataka’s Aushada platform, used for tracking the movement of medicines, employs blockchain for end-to-end traceability, ensuring transparency and reducing the circulation of counterfeit drugs.

In addition to deployment, MeitY is building technical capacity within government departments. Over 21,000 officials have been trained through 214 skill development programmes, ensuring that public institutions can effectively adopt emerging digital technologies.

MeitY stated that the blockchain infrastructure will not only support current governance use cases but also serve as a foundational layer for India’s future digital public infrastructure, advancing the country’s vision of trusted, technology-led governance.
