Kay Cannon directs Jennifer Garner in crypto-themed film

Hollywood star Jennifer Garner is set to headline One Attempt Remaining, a new comedy film directed by Kay Cannon, best known for Blockers and the Pitch Perfect franchise.

The project, announced this week, blends relationship chaos with one of the most viral real-world issues of the digital age: forgotten cryptocurrency fortunes.

The film follows two ex-spouses who, years after a bitter divorce, discover that the cryptocurrency they once won together during a cruise giveaway has skyrocketed in value.

Now worth millions, the windfall could change both their lives, except for one problem: neither of them remembers the password needed to access the wallet.

The premise mirrors several high-profile crypto mishaps that have made global headlines over the past decade.

As bitcoin and other digital assets surged in value, stories of early adopters losing fortunes due to forgotten passwords or misplaced hard drives became surprisingly common.

One such case involved a U.S. investor who lost access to more than $200 million worth of bitcoin, with only a few password attempts remaining before permanent lockout, a scenario that inspired the film’s title.

According to industry trackers, roughly 20% of all Bitcoin is believed to be lost or inaccessible due to forgotten credentials, abandoned wallets, or destroyed devices. The film taps directly into this growing cultural fascination, blending it with sharp comedic storytelling and the emotional tension of a divorced couple forced to reunite.

Garner’s casting has already generated buzz, marking her return to studio comedy. Cannon, whose work combines humor with relatable life conflicts, is expected to bring both heart and absurdity to the screenplay.

As cryptocurrency becomes increasingly mainstream, One Attempt Remaining reflects the strange new financial realities shaping everyday life.

With its mix of modern tech anxiety and classic comedic conflict, the film aims to capture a phenomenon unique to the digital era, when a single forgotten password can cost millions.
