Tokenized stocks AUM tops $1B as market grows over 50x

The market for tokenized stocks has crossed a major milestone, with total assets under management (AUM) surpassing $1 billion for the first time.

Data compiled by Gate Research shows that tokenized equities have expanded more than 50-fold over the past year, underscoring accelerating demand for blockchain-based access to traditional financial instruments.

Tokenized stocks allow investors to gain exposure to publicly traded equities through onchain representations backed by real-world shares.

These products are typically issued on public blockchains and aim to offer benefits such as 24/7 trading, fractional ownership, faster settlement, and composability with decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols.

While still a niche segment compared to global equity markets, recent growth highlights rising institutional and retail interest in tokenized financial assets.

The market is currently dominated by xStocks, which leads the sector with more than $600 million in AUM. This gives xStocks an estimated 58.3% market share, making it the largest provider of tokenized equities by a wide margin.

Its rapid expansion reflects strong adoption, particularly among users seeking onchain exposure to U.S. stocks without relying solely on traditional brokerage infrastructure. Meanwhile, Ondo Global Markets has emerged as a fast-growing competitor, especially on BNB Chain.

Ondo’s tokenized stock products on BNB Chain have now exceeded $50 million in AUM, marking a sharp increase over recent months.

When combined with its Ethereum-based offerings, Ondo accounts for roughly 39% of the total tokenized stock market, highlighting its growing influence across multiple blockchain ecosystems.

Other platforms, including products linked to Ethereum, Solana, and Arbitrum, remain smaller but continue to contribute to overall market diversification.

Analysts note that the surge in AUM coincides with improving regulatory clarity around real-world asset (RWA) tokenization in several jurisdictions, as well as growing comfort among investors with blockchain-native financial products.

As infrastructure matures and more issuers enter the space, tokenized stocks are increasingly viewed as a bridge between traditional capital markets and onchain finance.

While challenges remain, particularly around regulation, custody, and investor protections, the sector’s rapid growth suggests tokenized equities could become a core pillar of the broader digital asset economy.
